Solar Proponent Secures 1.6 Gigawatts in ERCOT Projects
Solar Proponent LLC, a developer focused on ERCOT utility-scale solar and storage projects, has successfully secured 1.6 GWAC of power purchase agreements (PPAs) across four Texas-based projects with a major technology company. This accomplishment highlights the company’s role in the expansion of renewable energy within the state. It also demonstrates Solar Proponent’s ability to attract significant corporate interest.
The company, backed by EnCap Investments, Yorktown Partners, and Mercuria Energy, is strategically positioning itself to meet the growing demand for clean energy in the ERCOT market. With these PPAs, Solar Proponent aims to support the Texas power grid. The company also seeks to help its counterpart meet decarbonization goals. The execution of these agreements follows a productive 2024, including the sale of a 780 MWDC solar project in the ERCOT South zone. Additionally, construction on several large-scale solar initiatives has already commenced.
Looking ahead, Solar Proponent is focused on further expanding its portfolio. The company plans to develop a 2.2 GWAC collection of projects in both the North and South zones of ERCOT. It is also actively seeking partners for financing and construction. Moreover, Solar Proponent is managing the development of the largest solar project in the Houston zone, which is expected to become operational in early 2025. These efforts reflect Solar Proponent’s commitment to advancing sustainable electricity infrastructure and supporting the transition to renewable energy.
